Fourth Year Required Curriculum
Each student will be required to satisfactorily complete:
1. The required Acting Internship (General Pediatrics, General Internal Medicine, General Meds/Peds or Family Practice-minimum 4 weeks). To qualify as meeting this curricular requirement, the experience should/must:
- Be in a primary care discipline (i.e. -Family Practice, General Internal Medicine, or General Pediatrics)
- Contain an inpatient component
- Require night call
- Provide the student with primary care responsibility for a panel of his/her own patients and direct supervision by Senior Staff faculty and/or a Senior Resident. (they should not "share" patients with or be supervised by a PGY1 trainee.)An intensive care experience would be acceptable providing it is in General Internal Medicine or General Pediatrics. Cardiac ICU, Pulmonary ICU, or other specialized care experiences would not be acceptable. (See page 30 for list of Electives which qualify as Acting Internships)
2. The required Alcohol/Drug Dependence Treatment Program (MPSY 983 - 2 weeks)
3. BAC IV - (2 weeks)
4. At least 32 weeks of Electives
5. At least 20 weeks on campus
6. 75% of 4th Year Electives (24 of 32 weeks) need to comply with recommended electives for your career goal.
4th Year Elective Evaluation - Requirement:
Completion of a 4th Year Elective Evaluation (pages 27-30) at the end of the clerkship will be required to obtain academic credit for the clerkship.
